Hexes and more Hexes

Today I am quilting with paper....That's paper punch Hexes from Stampin-up.
Little Miss Muffet is having an anything-goes-challenge, so I am showing off her new Jamie Stamp with face.  Come join us...

The first card is Jamie from Little Miss Muffet Polka Dot Pals.  I also used her new Add-on-Faces eye stamp for the eyes and glasses.  Remember the Polka Dot Pals have two little beaded eyes?

The second card is Tilda With Bunny Balloon from Magnolia.  Here I colored her eyes in and played with Zentangle on her ballon.

And just so you know that I really love to quilt....here is a picture of my Hexes quilt I am working on now:

Enjoy and have a nice day...

Texas Colouring Retreat

Just one of the Cards we did at the Colouring Retreat with Zoe, Barbara and Christy.  We had this coloring challenge with us coloring on a card and passing it on to our neighbor until the card made it around the room.  Each time we had  3 minutes to color. This is my card and I started with two tone purple bows on her dress and in her hair.  It turned out really fun and was a real learning experience!

Coloring Practice

Today Barbara and I are coloring again.  Practicing my coloring.
The one on the Left is done with Prismacolor Pencils only and the one on the Right was done with Copic Markers and topped with Prismacolor Pencils. I used Strathmore Bristol Vellum Surface paper and I REALLY LIKED using the pencils but found it harder to use the Copic Marker.  They seemed to puddle on me.

Which one do you like best?

More Coloring from the Retreat

Here are two cards from the coloring retreat:
The first one is Fancy Sunbonnet Miss Muffet from Little Miss Muffet.  The background was painted with a ink pad and stamp with Fancy Sunbonnet Miss Muffet masked out, just as Zoe taught us. The pen was a cross from Zentangle, Barbara's clouds and my own thoughts.

The second card was from the coloring hair challenge, Hair of a different color .  I colored the hair with copic markers.  The rest was colored with Prismacolor pencils. The paper for this one was Zoe's paper.

Enjoy:

Texas Colouring Retreat with Zoe and Barbara

We had Soooooo much fun at the 2014 Colouring Retreat with Zoe from Make it Crafty and Barbara from Little Miss Muffet.  And I am still coloring!  Here are some of my cards:

This first one I really colored about 5 months ago when Barbara was trying to teach me how to color in faces without drawn lines.  I even did this one myself, no help from Barbara. The image is Polka Dot Pals from Little Miss Muffet.  She comes with little beady eyes and the rest is up to you.

At the coloring retreat I colored the balloon on Tilda with Big Balloon and added the zentangle to it.  What a BLAST!  I will be doing more of this! We played around with coloring hair and making glow spots for our images and after coming home this is how I chose to finish this one.  Barbara did bailed me out with the hair, but the FACE IS ALL MINE!

What fun we all had and Zoe and Barbara did a GREAT JOB PLANNING EVERYTHING.
THANK YOU for the great time.

We learned more, so there will be more to come.

2 1/2" squares with A Quilting Life

Back with  Sherri McConnell and her Simply Small Project with 2 1/2" squares project.  As you can see my table runners don't look finished, but by the 10th they will be.  My DH is having surgery the first of the week and I will not have time to post a finished photo.  I will be doing the binding while sitting by his side. I changed my mind from using civil war prints to newer prints.  The top one and the bottom one are really Moda Mimi  by Chez Moi 5 inch squares that have been cut into fouths.

One tablerunner is on the machine and the backing and batting are the same for all 3 quilts.  So when one gets done, I will add the next, until all 3 have been quilted.

These will make great Christmas gifts and maybe I will still have one for my table.  I added one more border to the outside to make it more colorful, bigger and because I had the fabric.

These have been fun to do and not much work.   Don't forget to check out A Quilting Life on the 10th.  She said she would have another project for us to do.

Thanks Sherri and Enjoy....

SP06 Tilda

Here's a card I made using one of the older Magnolia images named "SP06 Tilda."  I had this image colored a while ago but added the red highlights before adding it to a card.

The older Magnolia are cute looking with their single strand of hair and skinning legs.  I would love to find more of them.
Still using Copic Sketch markers and Cryogen White by Cut Card Stock.

Enjoy....

Celtic Solstics Mystery Quilt

Bonnie over at Quiltville Quips & Snips is doing her annual winter mystery quilt.   This year it is Celtic Solstics Mystery  and came about from her trip to Ireland this last summer.  I had so much fun with the Easy Street from last year that it is a must again.

http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/celtic-solstice-mystery.html

It's been a very busy month around here and it does not look any better for the rest of the year, but I will try to get caught up and stay with it.  Yes, that's right..... This mystery started on 11/29/13 and I just got my fabric pulled.  I even missed the first posting of what we were going to be doing.  Part 2 went live this morning.  But there is still time for you to join in with us.

I am going to be using my 1930 prints.  I had this basket just sitting around and decided that it was time I use it up.  I will however be using the blue, green, yellow and pink for my colors and white as my background.

Happy quilting....

Pat Sloan 2013 UFO Challenge update

We are back today with a sneak peak of my LLF (Long Lost and Forgotten) UFO Sunbonnet Sue Quilt.  As you remember these blocks are 37 years old and where doing a petty good job of hiding in my closet.  Hopefully next year I can get to the other 2 UFO's that are just as old.

The challenge is Pat Sloan year end 2013 UFO.  I have it all pieced together.  I got pass 2 of my stumbling blocks.....one is sewing all the blocks together and the other one is sewing the borders on.  So now it is on to the fun part and that is the quilting.  It's on the long arm and just waiting for me to get quilting.  Can't wait to show you the whole quilt.  It has turned out really fun and I don't know why I waited so long....

Watch for the finally review next week.  Happy quilting.

Summer Flower Tilda

This is Summer Flower Tilda by Magnolia and colored with Copic Markers.  The head was stamped twice and a mask was created with the face.  The first image shows Tilda holding the mask and the second picture shows Tilda with the mask on.  I also cut off the butterfly wings on this image and included the gold sparkly wings for a more dimensional look.  Now this Tilda is all ready for the mascaraed ball!

I have always wanted to this to Tilda and finally got around to it.  From little skinny pole legs to cute little faces. How fun was this!

Enjoy,,,,

SP06 Tilda and Annie

These are some of the original Magnolia Tilda images and they look completely different from the current Tilda images.  These two were conspicuously named "SP06 Tilda" and "SP06 Annie" from 2006.  Instead of fussy cutting around the strand of hair, I cut it off and used brown jute.  In the background I have used the fence DooHickey, MFT Grass metal die and also chipboard embellishment from Make it Crafty that were painted white.

Aren't they just the cutiest! Magnolia you have come a long way baby,,,,,,,,

2013 UFO Easy Challenge with Pat Sloan

Hi, I am here today with Pat Sloan's 2013 End of the Year UFO Challenge.  How easy can this be?  I have been working hard on trying to finish up some of my old projects, so this is a GREAT CHALLENGE!

Some of you mite wonder what has happen to me.....Well lets see, I have been sick, moved and trying hard to get my feet back on the ground and get sewing again.  As I read about this challenge I thought about finishing up the binding on one quilt but that would be to easy....it has to be harder than this.  So.......I went looking and found this project (well there are really 3 projects) that were started when my oldest daughter was little, She is 39 now.  Somehow in choosing this project it will help to clear up a very LLF (long lost and forgot) UFO that has been sitting around more that it should have and maybe make me feel better about what UFO's Ihave left.

How many of you can remember Artex paints?  I painted these blocks (15 in all) to make a bed quilt for my daughter's bed.  It's to late for that, but maybe for one of my grand daugthers?

Pat, I am up and ready for this challenge.  Thanks
Peggy

QT Pincushion Tutorial

Today we are making a fun pincushion.....

 and sewing box.....

For the pincushion we start off with 2 pieces of fabric any size and any color.  My large one here is 5 inches square and the smaller one is 3 inches square, but any size will do.  Some times with the larger one I will layer it with 2 pieces of muslin just for a tighter construction.

Layer the  fabrics, right sides together with the extra muslin if you are using it, on the top and bottom.  Stitch all around the outside edge at 1/4 inch seam, leaving an opening on one side for turning.  Cut away the 4 corners as shown.

With a pin, line up the seam on both sides of a corner turning the seam allowance towards the opposite way and stitch across like you would for a bag bottom.  How big of a seam here is up to you as to how thick or thin you want your pincushion and what size square you started with. With the larger size I like to draw a pencil line to follow and with the smaller one I just use my sewing machine foot.  I do back tack and sew the seam twice just so it won't come out.

When that is done, cut away the extra fabric and turn it inside out.

I like to fill my pincushions with Crushed Walnut Shells.  You can find them at your pet shops.  Making a paper funnel with the help of type paper and a couple of staples, fill the bag.  You can move the funnel around as you get to the top and help the shells go where you want them.  I fill as many as I can get in and then use a straight pin to pin shut.  A simple running stitch will close it nicely and when you sew your topper on it, it should pull tight.  I use multiple stitches going from the top to bottom and back, tying off with a square knot.

You can find some really cute toppers at the scrap-book stores.  Flowers, lace, crochet, buttons or some applique flowers you have laying around.  You can even add 2 or 3 squares on top of each others.

Now for the Sewing Kit.....  This is just an eyeglass case holder I bought at Wat-mart. I think I paid about $4.00 for it.  The little 3 inch square pincushion fits in here really nice with plenty of room for thread, scissors and etc.

Just one more look.... make yourself one or more and enjoy......
