Block Base Sew Along #4

We are back again with another Quilt block from Block Base.  This time it is 2049.  It sewed together really fast and easy.  I think I have more fun playing on Block Base than sewing.

QT Block Base Block #3

 This week at Block Base it is  #2448.  Although I found this block easy to piece and fun, it came during a very bad week and my heart just was not in it. It seems that every thing I did this week went bad....have you ever had a week like that, I hope not.... Seeing it here I will unpick a few spot and resew it again, but I don't have the time right now.  OK, it was pretty bad, so I stayed up last night and resewed it.  It's not perfect, but for a civil war quilt it will work.  I will do better next time.

Sometimes I think it is more fun to play with Block Base that to really sew on a block.

QT Block Base Sew Along

We are here today with the second block in the Block Base Sew Along.  This one is #2741 and when I first saw it I agreed that I didn't want to sew it.  So I just buckle down and cut the fabric out.  It came together very easily and was a joy to make.  So ....Thank you for this one and to all of you, come on just sew one too...

QT Block Base Sew Along

Welcome and good morning.  Block Base is having a Sew Along and I have decided to join in.  After getting my dates mixed up, I think I am back on track.  This is #1336 and is the first block.

I am making mine 6 inch finished squares so I can put them with my Farmer's Wife Blocks.  The Farmer's Wife book has you make 145 blocks with 34 of them a repeat.  I didn't want to do repeats so this will make up the difference. It is written by Laurie Aaron Hird.

I love working in EQ.  It's fun, fast and you get to see what it mite look like before you cut fabrics.  My fabric library is not as big as I would like to see, but I am working on it. 

Just for your information this is the Famer's Wife Quilt book.   I love it and out of the 111 blocks I have all but 9 of them made.

Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks

 We are back today with my Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks and Flowers and a Quilt Show.  Just needed to do something light and fun.   I had seen a baby quilt with strips and one row of something across the top 

and thought that it would be fun to use my FWQB.  I am not to sure I like it as much as I thought I would.  But it is still light and fun....  I love the 1930 prints.

The next two quilts are some OLD UFO's that are finally finished!

This is an applique quilt I pieced about 14 years ago.  Believe it or not the top has been hanging in my closet waiting to be quilts all this time.

 Then about 3 years ago I was looking for a change.   

Something fast and I wanted to use a jelly roll.

This is what came from it....

My girls came over to play today, so I got them to hold up my quilts outside, 

so there would be plenty of light.

QT Farmer's Wife Table Runner

Farmer's Wife Blocks gone wild! This is one set of the Farmer's Wife blocks that I started and then decided that they were just to bright and wild for me. Then I got reminded of this table runner and then it all came together. Just the bright and wild table runner for a nice spring day or that special day, like a birthday!



The next one is another table runner I did using some odd blocks in my stash. What is really neat about the runner is that it doesn't have to be any special size so......... get out those odd blocks and have some fun! Just think, make some thing to brighten up your home or make some for your special friends. These blocks must be at least 12 years old. What a GOOD FEELING to finish something! I love getting those UFO done!

OK, what do you need to know to make these runners? Find some blocks..planned or not planned. Sew them together and put a border around them. Sew a larger border on the ends, Same fabric as the last border or use another fabric. Take the measurement on the height of your runner, add the width of your last border times 2, (for 2 borders), plus 1/2 inch for the seams. This is the measurement you will cut your last border, because it is the backing, 2 borders and seam allowance. After you sew this on you will have a tube.

Press and fold in half and sew together. I used my serger, but it is not necessary. This will make the pointed ends of you runner.


When you press the ends, take some Heat-n'bond or alike and seal the end down. If you wanted to do handwork here, you could do that as well.

QT Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks #7 and lots of storage

Today I have got lots to show and tell.

The next things I want to share is the corner of my fabric and cutting room. This bookcase is only 2 steps away from my cutting table and iron and 4 steps away from my fabric cutting machine. I have my fabric stash under the table and on a few shelves next to my cutting table. This shelve also hold the small things that I use the most with my quilting, right where I can just reach out and get it when I need it.
You can see the 2 1/2 binders that fill a whole shelve. A few months ago these were about 6 piles and boxes round about my room and it was a guessing game as to were you look for what you need. Then Pinterest came into my life and it got my mind thinking. Why can't I do the same thing with my ideas and patterns? Although all of the store bought patterns were together, my magazines stuff was together and patterns shared with friends and my own art work had their place, I could not remember which of my thought were which. These books are all filled to the maxi, but everything is together in one book. I even have enough room to add more binders and more ideas!



I am going to share the Baby book. All of my store bought patterns, magazines articles and etc and here in this one book. Just like the Board's on Pinterest! Cool hug?




The next thing I want to show is my corner of my Stamping Room. This Christmas My Sweet Husband bought me the Recollections Organizer Cubes from Michaels. These have been a life save. Here again this room had different size boxes and tubs for storing and with my girls and grand daughters playing here with me..... There was not enough room. We now have empty cubes just waiting to be filled.



The first 2 pictures basically show my corner. The next one show my Barbara's corner. Our tables come out in an 'L' shape with a space for Carol and or the grand daughters on the other table.


We have lots of fun here and now everything has a home. Now if we can all get felling better we will be able to play again.

QT Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks # 6

It's time for New Years resolutions and mine is more sewing and card making. It's about time for more Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks. Between Christmas, Christmas Sewing and getting sick, not much has been happening around here. Now that the New Year is here maybe things will slow down ( or pick up) and I can get more done. QT Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks #4 and Sewing Room

Here we are today with more Farmer's Wife Blocks. These have been really fun to make and I am looking forward to having them all made so I can sew my quilt together.

I have also been having fun on Pinterest. One of my boards have been sewing room storage and I have been so inspired by what I have seen that it has made my mind spin. After thinking about my room, what I could do with what I already have, I came up with this:



The 2 kitchen cabinets I had and was just being stored. The white tub drawers is what I have been using to store my projects in. So I went over to Home Depot and bought a 8' counter top and the shelving for above the counter. You can see that I have the important things done, with all of my supplies on the shelves and the ladder still waiting to be put away:



I used an older white shelve to put on the end to hold my smaller dies. Easy to get to when using my Studio and Go cutter. I can't believe how much room this gave me and how easy it is to use my supplies.


I hope you enjoyed seeing part of my sewing room(s). I really have 3 rooms that are connected.
It's going to be lots of fun using this new found space.

Back home from the Houston Quilt Market and was it FUN! I have even got caught up with my Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks, and even found time to play with new fabric I bought at market.....

This is the new fabric I bought at market It's St. Remy de Provence by Robyn Pandolph for RJR Fabrics. Isn't it beautiful? This Fabric will not be sold on the bolt until late December or January. I knew the minute I saw it, I wanted to try a block pattern that a friend shared with me called the Disappearing Nine Patch. This has to be the fastest - easiest way of making a quilt I have ever seen and fun too!


This is what the blocks look like after you cut them up. Think of the possibility of how many different looks you could get depending on how many fabrics you use and where you place them. This is a link to the web site that had the directions that I used: Disappearing Nine Patch

I cut my blocks into 6 inch squares, but I now think I could have got more for my bucks if I would have cut them into 5 inch squares. The difference being was I was using fat quarters instead of yardage. But it will be OK, I will just use my left overs in the boarder. I now have the blocks all sewn and cut apart, so hopefully you will see a finished quilt before long.

QT Farmer's Wife Quilt Blocks #2

I am back with more Farmer's Wife quilt blocks, but today I am starting with my 30's prints. But I also want to talk to you about thread. There are 2 new threads on the market today. One is Aurifil and the other is Presencia. I love both of them and I have them in my stash. Which one do I like the best depends on what I am doing. First, lets talk about Aurifil.... I love the colors and you can get it in different weights. I have seen 50 and 60. I love to use the 60 when I am doing applique and hand sewing and the colors are great and MANY quilters are starting to use it these days. Presencia comes in different weights as well, I have seen 50 and 60 but I know there is another one. This is the thread that Harriet Hargrave's uses and sells at her store. She uses the 60 weight for piecing, sewing and quilting and the best thing is that it comes in the large cones! Great for machine quilting and sewing on the sewing machine. Another thing about using these 60 weight threads is that more fits on the bobbin so you don't have to stop and fill it so many times! That means more sewing! With your handwork the thread just blends in and you can't see it. I have seen seen the Aurifil in the stores more, so we need to let our quilt shops know we want Presencia too!

Now on to my Civli War blocks.... This is what started all of this and with our last trip, I got behind. I still need to do 3/4 more blocks to get caught back up. Thinking that my next set of blocks would not come until next week, I thought I would have plenty of time.....then they came. Oh well, there is always next week.....But for now I am packing up to go to the Houston International Quilt Show and there will be no more sewing until after I get back home.
